Dmitri at Silvermine Art Center: This five-day intensive is an immersive exploration of Impressionist figure painting that connects historical tradition with contemporary practice. Guided each day by a master artist whose work reflects a distinct stage in the painter’s development, students will engage with these influences not as distant historical references, but as living companions in the act of seeing and painting. Rooted in the principle Lux Ante Formam—light before form—the course begins not with detail, but with light, atmosphere, and presence.
Over the course of the week, students will move through a thoughtful progression from looking and seeing to insight, vision, and inspired expression. As they work from structure to sensitivity, from design to light, participants will deepen their understanding of how light animates the figure and learn to translate observation into paintings that feel immediate, luminous, and fully alive in the spirit of Impressionist expression.
