was selected from the Newark Museum's permanent collection for this major exhibition surveying African American expressionist art.

Black Artists: Two Generations
An important early exhibition in Dmitri Wright's career and a significant historical connection between his beginnings as a young Newark artist and his later career as an American painter and educator.
Archival research into contemporary newspaper reviews, the original exhibition catalogue, and Newark Museum records is continuing.
c. 1970s — BROOKLYN MUSEUM ART SCHOOL
Artist • Max Beckmann International Scholar • Instructor
Dmitri Wright's relationship with the Brooklyn Museum Art School began through the Max Beckmann International Scholarship, where he studied under painter Reuben Tam. Wright later taught painting at the Brooklyn Museum Art School.
The Brooklyn Museum Archives preserve Wright's history as a member of the Art School faculty. The museum's archival holdings include a dedicated “Faculty and Staff – Wright, Dmitri, circa 1970” file as well as photographs documenting Dmitri Wright teaching during the 1970s.
