The Science and the Poetry

The Science and the Poetry

The science focuses on accurate representation of reality

The poetry centers on passion within that reality

Impressionism is a blend of science and poetry where each artist’s creativity is formed from a blending of one’s thoughts and feelings with one’s skills. The ratio of each is for you to discover yours. There is no right or wrong way in this painting process. There are, however, various approaches that will and will not work for you depending upon many factors such as temperament, time, and talent.  Determining where you are now and where you want to go, the ratio will change.

In my Master Class, I will introduce you to both the science and the poetry. It will be for you to experiment and take risks as the Impressionists did.

If you want more realistic representation in your work, apply the science of art

How? Practice, practice, practice, rehearsal, dress rehearsal. Yes, do multiple sketches, detailed preliminary focused studies, compositional studies, several formal drawings, and several value studies.

Remember all along to have fun as you analyze. Practice patience and perseverance; learn from your mistakes; it improves your craft.

If you want more freedom and passion in your work, apply the poetry of art

Exercise your thoughts and feelings about your subject matter. How?

Practice, practice, practice, rehearsal, dress rehearsal. Yes, do multiple sketches – to loosen the hand; multiple preliminary focused studies (to savor the image and take it deep into your imagination).

Add a Word Sketch with each. Remember all along to have fun as you have fun. Practice patience and perseverance; learn to let go.
