The Quality of Light: The 2nd Category of Light of the 8 Elements of Light

The impressionist when they ventured out into the open air to work, discovered and applied two other aspects of light - transparent and translucent light. I called this category in the development of applying color as light - The Quality of Light

The 2 Qualities of Light 

Transparent effect of light - permits light to pass through objects without diffusing the appearance of things. Example light through a clear stream. The color behind it comes through.    

Translucent effect of light – is a diffusing light in which objects can not be seen clearly, though light can pass through, a semitransparent brightness.  

Aerial perspective is used more often by the natural impressionists to show the distance between the viewer and the subject, and subject in relation to other objects in which one applies cooler colors for distance.
